Should you ever get served a beer that you are not completely happy with please let me know at the time instead of(or as well as) complaining on some beer web site. It is not possible to tell the taste of a beer simply by looking at it and if I were to try all 7 regularly throughout each session I would get into quite a pickle! I am always very happy to change anything that is sub standard and I feel even at £2.80 a pint people deserve something they enjoy.
Having said that, if enough of you feel that the standard of beer is poor over all I am happy to reduce the number of hand pumps to two or three, it will mean much less choice for you but much less work for me! I could even just have a completely idiot proof John Smiths and then no one could complain!
I do realise that these experts have never kept a cellar themselves and that they have probably not even considered that it is human beings working with live products(some of which are easier than others, and take that how you will) neither of which are infallible!
I would not hesitate to ask for a replacement if I were served a beer I was unhappy with, neither would I criticise the landlord for serving it as I know how quickly these things can change, he may do a whole cask in a session and someone is going to get the last one which may not be as good as the first.
Oh, and by the way, most of my locals seem to enjoy my 'lamentable' beers from Devon and as it is them who support me throughout the year it is to them I must hold my allegiance. |

Yes please Hello.
I was passing through about a year ago and I had a pint that I was not completely happy with (it was fairly nice though). I left it on a bench outside, pehaps you remember seeing it, it was about half full.
I would have said something at the time but I think you was busy or I was in a hurry or something.
Anyway do you think it would be possible to collect a free pint next time I am in, in exchange for the pint.
I was wearing a blue cardigan.
Sam. |

Beer Stumbled upon this lovely pub on saturday afternoon, whilst walking through the countryside! sampled the Otters Amber which was very nice. Two things surprised, that there was no lager!! (which isn't a bad thing) but you have 5 different varieties of Biltong (which I love). Will be back shortly to sample maybe more than a half! |

Beer No problems with beer quality on my recent visit |

Beer Thanks Roy, In fairness there was another very nice comment from A radioactive drinker but I must apologise to him because his comment got lost in the latest round of work on the web site. Your comments have been noted and I will, of course, play it by ear through the long dark nights of January as long as you promise not to moan about the lack of choice!
The Ranmore will be here for as long as I am! |

Beer As Sarah has been good enough to start this off, surely we should get people replying. Personally I think the beer at the Royal oak is excellent. Maybe a couple of times it has not been 100%, but it have never been lamentable. That said, there are things to be said for having less beers at certain times (those awful days of January for example when we frankly can't afford to go out as much). That said, for most of the time it is great to have a good choice of tasty beer on sale. Just don't ever get rid of teh Ranmore!!! |
